I completed The Thor Challenge! Over the course of the last 12 months, I increased my weight by 30% while reducing my body fat by the exact same amount. Check it out.
Not bad for a year's work. Here's the tale of the tape:
I'm proud to be able to boast that, despite having jumped from bantamweight to light heavyweight, my newfound bulk is largely comprised of muscle: I gained 45 lbs., yet lost 3 1/2 pounds of fat (as well as two inches off my waistline). I've essentially flipped my body upside-down: I had a protruding stomach and bird chest; now my upper body is nearly 10 inches larger than my midsection.

Throughout The Thor Challenge, I charted my development alongside other individuals who got buff for movie roles: Hugh Jackman for Wolverine, Brad Pitt as Tyler Durden, Josh Brolin for Cable. However, I saved the most poetic comparison for last: As expected, I gained over 4 1/2 inches on my biceps. In November 2016, they measured a measly 11 1/4 inches. (The average male's bicep is 13".) They are now a hair over 16—half the size of my waist! Superman's guns, as seen on actor Henry Cavill, clock in at 16 inches as well. |
Perhaps the biggest surprise is that I went full Popeye: My forearms are a whopping 80% the size of my biceps (12 3/4 inches vs. 16 inches). They are bigger than my biceps were when I started training!

All of this, just so I could do justice to the character of Thor on Halloween.
