A good friend asked me, "Since you're a writer, not a jock, do you actually like working out?"
I had to stop and think about this for a second.
Weight training is odd: I hate it while I'm doing it,* but once I'm done, can't wait to do it again.
* - However, during a good "pump," it does feel like air is coursing through my veins (which might have something to do with the fact that highly oxygenated blood is traveling along my system).
Perhaps bodybuilders are masochists.

What I can say, without hesitation, is that I feel better than I ever have. I'd often heard this phrase before I started weight training and thought to myself, "Huh, I feel fine without all the work," but I get it now. I understand because I have something—a before and after—by which to make a comparison. I am hypoglycemic. I used to have to have something to drink in my hand the entire time I was awake. Since I've started working out and changed my diet, I don't any longer. Clearly my body is running more efficiently. So, do I like working out? Eh. Are the results worth it? Without a doubt. |
