Forty-five pounds (of muscle) in a year.
Whew! Quite a task I've laid out for myself. But Hemsworth weighed 185 lbs. when he filmed Rush and 210 lbs. during the sequel to Thor. The two movies were shot four months apart. By ratio, I've given myself 30% more time to pull off the equivalent. I'm considering the extra wiggle room compensation because Australia's pretty boy was a decade younger than me the year he made the two films.
As of today, we're off and running.
So everyone can keep track, I'm starting here:

So everyone can keep track, I'm starting here:
I'm 5'10" and 140 lbs. I consulted a health expert, who checked my body fat percentage: 16%. This is definitely going to need some improvement if I plan on wielding the almighty Mjölnir with dignity come Halloween.
A couple of pictures will help put this into perspective.
A couple of pictures will help put this into perspective.
If we assume the guy at 35 - 40% body fat weighs 250 lbs., this means he is sporting 87 - 100 lbs. of the nice, disgusting material we see in the second picture.
Make no mistake. Despite my lanky frame, I'm still toting around 22 pounds of flab! And it goes without saying, even though I'm sitting at the shallow end of the 16 - 19% body fat bracket, what little bulk I've managed to accumulate has centralized at my midsection, not my chest. For all intents and purposes, I'm what is referred to as "tofi," thin-outside-fat-inside which, as the chart to the right makes stunningly clear, means I'm a few hamburgers shy of looking like an eggplant on stilts. I'm round and scrawny in all the wrong places! |
With this in mind, in order to complete The Thor Challenge, I'll need to gain a third of my body weight while simultaneously losing the same percentage of body fat.
